SUMMARY:
Director to report updates on Neighborhood and Housing Services Department Programs.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Each month the director prepares a report on program updates directly affecting the Commission and its charge.
ISSUE:
Topics to be discussed are (a) City Housing Policy Implementation Plan; (b) Annual Report Update; (c) Follow-up Questions; (d) San Antonio Housing Trust Assessment; (e) San Antonio Housing Summit; (f) San Antonio Housing Authority Eviction Update; (g) Chief Housing Officer; (h) Upcoming Meetings
(a) City Housing Policy Implementation Plan
Staff will update on status of implementation plan.
(b) Annual Report
Staff is preparing an annual report. A work session was held with the Housing Commission on October 1st and 23rd. Based on feedback received at the work session, staff will provide recommendations for annually tracked metrics for discussion at the Housing Commission Retreat.
(c) Follow-up Questions
During the November 20 meeting, Commissioners asked three requests to be addressed at upcoming meetings.
(d) San Antonio Housing Trust Assessment
Staff will update Commission on the status of the Housing Trust Assessment including the comments received from the San Antonio Housing Trust Foundation Board.
(e) San Antonio Housing Summit
The 2020 San Antonio Housing Summit will be hosted on May 12, 2020. The event will be a half day pushed further into the evening to accommodate members of the public. The event will be closed out with a student charrette featuring youth from San Antonio ISD and SARAH’s Youth Homelessness Group will participate. The tracts are broken down into committees to create 3 workshops each, while one room will be concentrated on technical assistance for public and agencies.
The committees are as follows:
• “One Stop” Center: Technical Assistance
• Homelessness
• Seniors/ Vulnerable Populations
• Protect and Preserve Neighborhoods
• Affordable Housing Production
• Youth Charrette
Commissioners interested in any of the committees can reach out to staff.
(f) San Antonio Housing Authority Eviction Update
Staff will provide an update on the meetings the Housing Authority held in regards to the Alazan-Apache Courts.
(g) Chief Housing Officer
Staff will update Commission on the status of the Chief Housing Officer recruitment.
(h) Upcoming Meetings
Housing Commission is tentatively scheduled to meet again on February 26.
