Monterrey Park - Shade Structures


SUMMARY:

This ordinance authorizes a contract with Shade Structures, Inc. dba USA Shade for the purchase and installation of six shade structures at facilities located at Monterrey Park in the amount of $208,915.76. Funding is available from the 2017 General Obligation Bond Program and is included in the FY 2020 - FY 2025 Capital Improvements Program.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Submitted for Council consideration and action is the offer submitted by Shade Structures, Inc. dba USA Shade utilizing the Texas BuyBoard Cooperative 592-19 to provide delivery and installation of six shade structures at Monterrey Park located in Council District 5 for a total cost of $208,915.76.

On May 06, 2017, San Antonio voters approved the 2017 - 2022 Bond Program, consisting of six propositions totaling $850 million. Two separate public input meetings occurred in May of 2018 and January of 2019 to gather feedback from the public which included increased shade in the park. Shade canopies will provide protection from elements at the playground, pool deck, basketball court, and bleachers located at the soccer field. Monterrey Park Improvements will utilize General Park Improvements consisting of 2017 Proposition 3 bond funds in the amount of $475,000.

The Bond Program funds will be used on various capital improvements projects to address community infrastructure needs and improve the overall quality of life in San Antonio. As part of the program, included Park, Recreation & Open Space Improvements that would in order acquire, construct, equip and renovate various parks, recreational and open spaces throughout the City.

The initial term of the agreement shall begin upon approval of the contract by City Council and terminate upon completion of work.
