Funding Agreement: Aquatic Center at Palo Alto College (2017 Bond Project)


SUMMARY:

An ordinance approving the execution of a Funding Agreement between the Alamo Community College District and the City of San Antonio in an amount not to exceed $5,300,000.00 for improvements to the Aquatic Center at Palo Alto College, a 2017 Bond funded project, located in Council District 4. Funds are available from the 2017 - 2022 General Obligation Bond Program and are included in the FY 2020 - FY 2025 Capital Improvements Program.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Project Background
On May 6, 2017, the City approved the 2017 Bond Program authorizing $5,300,000.00 in Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces for improvements to the Aquatic Center at Palo Alto College located at 1400 Villaret in Council District 4. Open since 1992, the facility which the City of San Antonio co-manages with Alamo Community College District offers various swimming activities open to the public and hosts a number of high caliber swim meet competitions year-around including the US Open, USA Swimming Junior Olympics, U.S. Olympic Festival and several NCAA Championships.

The 2017-2022 Bond funds will support improvements to the Aquatic Center at Palo Alto College to include new roof, heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) replacement, interior and exterior renovations. The City's funding will go toward the construction of these improvements.

Construction will be overseen by the Alamo Community College District and is anticipated to begin in August 2020 and estimated to be completed in March 2022. Funding will be provided on a reimbursement basis and upon construction verification and approval.
