SUBJECT:

Review and consideration of applicants to the San Antonio Water System Board of Trustees, South Sector position.

SUMMARY:

The City Council Governance Committee will review and consider the applications submitted by Edward Belmares, Olufemi Osidele, and James Smyle to finalize a recommendation for a representative for the South Sector of the San Antonio Water System Board of Trustees, to serve the remainder of an unexpired term of office ending May 31, 2024.

On June 30, 2020, the Governance Committee reviewed and considered applicants to the North and South Sectors as well as the Southeast Quadrant and conducted interviews at its August 3, 2020 Meeting. Of the five South Sector applicants interviewed, Robert Potts received the nomination of Committee Members but was not appointed at the August 6, 2020 City Council Meeting. At the August 20, 2020, City Council Meeting the City Council referred the issue to the Governance Committee for reconsideration of the applicants for that position.

Since the August 20, 2020, City Council Meeting, Robert Potts and Fernando Reyes have withdrawn their applications from consideration.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The San Antonio Water System Board of Trustees is vested with the complete management, control and operation of the Water System. The Board controls the expenditure and application of the revenues of the System and makes recommendations to the City Council concerning rates, fees, and changes for services rendered by the System. Members serve a four-year term of office, beginning on June 1 and ending on May 31, and are limited to serving two terms of office, unless their first appointment was for the remainder of an unexpired term of office of less than two years.
