An ordinance authorizing a Funding Agreement for an amount not to exceed $110,000 between the Board of Directors for Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Number Eleven, City of San Antonio, and San Antonio for Growth of the Eastside (SAGE) for the design and installation of thirteen significant markers at various locations on the east side of San Antonio, TX, City Council District 1 and 2 for the Significant Markers Project.
SUMMARY:
This Funding Agreement provides funding for the Significant Markers Project. The intent of this project is to mark significant east side locations with plaques detailing significant people and places on the east side of San Antonio approved by the Office of Historic Preservation. Costs for this project include the purchase of 13 plaques, shipping, and installation. The total cost of the project is approximately $110,000.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
On October 8, 2019 a public information session was held to educate the community about the Eastside Significant Markers Project. The goal of this information session was to obtain public interest on Eastside history and identify potential monumentalizations, determine historical and cultural significance of the neighborhood and provide a platform to the public for sharing significant information about their community's history.
On August 26, 2020 the TIRZ Board approved funding for the design and installation of thirteen significant markers for an amount not to exceed $110,000. The funding is contingent upon approval of plaque design, content, and location by Office of Historic Preservation. A total of 13 plaques are to be installed in three phases.
