SUBJECT: 2021 Texas Department of Transportation Click It Or Ticket It Seat Belt Enforcement Grant

 

 

SUMMARY:

 

The San Antonio Police Department will provide the Public Safety Committee with a briefing on a grant application to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the 2021 "Click It Or Ticket" Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) seatbelt program.  The grant amount is for $35,000 with an in-kind match of $8,750 for a total program of $43,750 for the period of November 13, 2020, through December 2, 2020.

 

This grant is scheduled for City Council consideration in “A” Session on November 5, 2020.

 

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

 

The Police Department has been awarded the “Click It Or Ticket” STEP seatbelt program for the past 18 years. The grant provides overtime resources to fund enforcement and education with the goal of increasing occupant seatbelt and child restraint use in all passenger vehicles and trucks. This program enhances the Police Department’s efforts in the enforcement of state traffic laws.

This item provides a briefing on a grant application to Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the 2021 "Click It Or Ticket" Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) seatbelt program.

 

 

ALTERNATIVES:

 

This item provides a briefing on a grant application.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

 

The grant application is for $35,000 and requires an in-kind match of $8,750 for a total program budget of $43,750. The in-kind match is included in the Police Department FY 2021 Budget and is comprised of the administrative costs to manage the grant.

 

 

RECOMMENDATION: 

 

Staff recommends that the Public Safety Committee forwards this grant to the City Council for approval and acceptance upon award in “A” Session on November 5.
