SUBJECT:

 

Declaring Results of the November 3, 2020 Sales and Use Tax Election

 

 

SUMMARY:

 

This Ordinance will officially declare the results of the Sales and Use Tax held on November 3, 2020 to

 

                     Reauthorize the collection of the existing sales tax for the Early Childhood Education Program - Pre -K 4 SA; and

                     Authorize the reallocation of an existing Sales and Use Tax for the Ready to Work SA Workforce Program for job training and scholarships

 

 

ISSUE:

 

The City Council as the Canvassing Authority will review and canvass the unofficial election results of the Sales and Use Tax Election held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 to

 

                     Reauthorize the collection of the existing sales tax for the Early Childhood Education Program - Pre -K 4 SA; and

                     Authorize the reallocation of an existing Sales and Use Tax for the Ready to Work SA Workforce Program for job training and scholarships

 

In accordance with Texas Election Code, election results are required to be canvassed no later than 14 days after the date of the Election. 

 

 

ALTERNATIVES:

 

There is no alternative, state law requires the canvassing of an election by the Canvassing Authority.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

 

There is no fiscal impact associated with the passage of this ordinance. 

 

 

RECOMMENDATION:

 

 

The recommendation is for the City Council to approve this ordinance which has been coordinated with the City Attorney’s Office and the Bexar County Elections Office.
