SUBJECT:
The San Antonio Fire Department will be giving a presentation on the Fire Department’s organization and mission with an emphasis on the Emergency Medical System (EMS) Division. The presentation will be inclusive of Department demographics, organizational capabilities, and innovations in the department.
SUMMARY:
The San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD) is an “all hazards” department with a large organizational structure and capabilities to mitigate a large list of emergency situations that threaten the City of San Antonio. The presentation will include a synopsis of the department response capabilities and response data. The emphasis of the presentation will be on the departments’ EMS division, to include the efficiency programs, innovations, Mobile Integrated Healthcare Program, and new programs such as the Clinical Dispatcher Program.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The San Antonio Fire Department is the second largest department in the City of San Antonio. The department is responsible for all facets of emergency response in the City with the exception of law enforcement services provided by SAPD and responds to over 200,000 incidents annually.
The EMS division has been awarded two national awards, the Congressional Fire Services Institute/Massimo Excellence in Fire Service Based EMS Award and the 2019 EMS World, Dick Ferneau EMS System of the Year, in the last year. These awards were based on the innovation and service provided by the San Antonio Fire Department.
