Vision Zero Program
SUMMARY:
The Transportation Department will provide an informational briefing to the City Council Transportation & Mobility Committee on the status of the Vision Zero Program. The briefing will include an overview of the program, a status of the program and update on related legislative initiatives.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The goal of Vision Zero is to achieve zero fatalities on the City of San Antonio public roads. Vision Zero is a high profile initiative designed to eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries in San Antonio using a five-element approach, including Education, Encouragement, Engineering, Enforcement, and Evaluation. Since FY 2017, $1,000,000 has been funded annually for the Vision Zero Program to focus on educational and outreach programs, crash data research and pedestrian-oriented project improvements.
The purpose of this briefing will be to provide the City Council Transportation and Mobility Committee an overview of the City's Vision Zero Program, a status of the efforts completed and an update on relevant state legislative initiatives filed-to-date.
