Extension of Parking Agreement with University of Texas at San Antonio
SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes a one-year extension of a parking agreement with the University of Texas at San Antonio to allow Institute of Texan Cultures' (ITC) staff and visitors to use 50 parking spaces on City property for $7,997.28.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
On June 6, 2013, City Council approved an agreement with the University of Texas at San Antonio, designating 50 parking spaces on City property for use by the Institute of Texan Cultures' staff and visitors seven days a week from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. The parking spaces are located near the ITC in Hemisfair. On January 29, 2015, City Council approved an amendment to the agreement, designating 20 spaces available 24/7 and to increase the payment to the City from $5,000.00 to $7,997.28 annually. For the past seven years, City Council has approved to extend the agreement by one year.
The ITC has requested the agreement be extended for one year through January 28, 2022. The Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation supports the one year extension.
ISSUE:
Approval of this agreement will enable the ongoing use of 50 City-owned parking spaces at the Hemisfair Park Lot. ITC is seeking to continue use for 12 months through January 28, 2022. This agreement is consistent with the City's policy of utilizing its parking facilities to provide direct support to downtown commercial activity
ALTERNATIVES:
The City may elect not to extend its parking agreement with the University of Texas' Institute of Texan Cultures or may propose an extension greater or less than 12 months.
