SUBJECT:

Amendment & Contract Award: South Zarzamora Street/Applewhite Road Intersection (2017 Bond Project)


SUMMARY:

Consideration of the following items related to the South Zarzamora Street/Applewhite Road Intersection project:

A. An ordinance approving the execution of an amendment in the increased amount of $151,580.00 to the $202,000.00 Design Services Agreement between the City and GGE Consulting Engineers, Inc. dba GE Reaves Engineering for additional services associated with the design. This amendment will also authorize upcoming bid, construction phase and other related services required in relation to the South Zarzamora Street/Applewhite Road Intersection project located in Council District 4. Funds are available from the 2012 and 2017 General Obligation Bond funds and are included in the FY 2021 - FY 2026 Capital Improvement Program.

B. An ordinance accepting the lowest responsive bid and awarding a construction contract to E-Z Bel Construction, LLC in the amount of $1,940,478.83 for the South Zarzamora Street/Applewhite Road Intersection project located in Council District 4. Funds are available from the 2012 and 2017 General Obligation Bond funds and are included in the FY 2021 - FY 2026 Capital Improvement Program.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Project Background
On May 6, 2017, voters approved the 2017 Bond Program which authorized $900,000.00 for the South Zarzamora Street/Applewhite Road Intersection project located in Council District 4. As part of the FY 2020 adopted budget, funds in the additional amount of $1,750,000.00 were approved for this project. The project will provide for demolition and reconstruction of the existing intersection to reconfigure the South Zarzamora Street and Applewhite Road intersection.
