SUBJECT:
Contract for Election Services with Bexar County for the May 1, 2021 General, Charter, and Special Elections.
SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes the execution of a contract for Election Services with the Bexar County Elections Office in the amount of $615,718.39 for the City of San Antonio’s General, Charter, and Special Elections scheduled for Saturday, May 1, 2021.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Section 271.002(a) of the Texas Election Code authorizes two or more political subdivisions to enter into an agreement to hold elections jointly in the election precincts that can be served by common polling places.
ISSUE:
Participation in a Joint Election with other political subdivisions allows the entities to share common expenses for voting machines, election facilities, and poll workers, thereby reducing the cost of the election for each political subdivision. It also provides greater convenience to voters to participate in the elections of multiple political subdivisions at one polling place with one single ballot.

FISCAL IMPACT:
Due to the joint participation of various entities in the May 1, 2021 Election, the cost to the City of San Antonio is approximately $615,718.39. Funding is available in the FY 2021 Municipal Elections General Fund Adopted Budget.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of the ordinance authorizing an agreement with the Bexar County Elections Office for the City of San Antonio’s General, Charter, and Special Elections scheduled for Saturday, May 1, 2021.
