SUBJECT: A briefing providing updates on the community-wide COVID-19 Waitlist for people 65+
SUMMARY:
ITSD and technology partner HASA will share updates on the implementation of the community-wide COVID-19 Waitlist.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
On March 31, 2021 at a special City Council meeting, an ordinance was passed under which the City of San Antonio established a community wide registry for COVID-19 vaccination registration so that individuals who want a COVID-19 vaccine can provide contact information to vaccine providers that can use the registry to contact registrants as vaccines become available.
Upon approval, ITSD contracted with HASA (Healthcare Access San Antonio) to design, build and implement a waitlist system that allows Bexar County residents age 65 or over who have not been vaccinated and do not currently have a vaccination appointment.
The system is being implemented in two parts:
1. The “public-facing” Waitlist: A Texas resident or their proxy goes online, calls 311, or works directly with any Community Outreach Enroller (Council staff, Navigator, Community Health workers, Doctors Office, etc.) to complete a questionnaire and save their name in a central database. The resident is then notified that they are on the waiting list and will be contacted when a Provider has vaccines available.
2. Provider contacts resident for appointment: When vaccines are available at a specific Provider, that Provider pulls a list of residents from the Waitlist prioritized by their specific criteria or guidelines. The resident is notified by the Provider Call Center and “registers” the resident for an appointment. The resident arrives at the Provider location and follows the vaccination process.
The presentation will be shared by Craig Hopkins, CIO, City of San Antonio and Dr. Phil Beckett, CEO, HASA.
ISSUE:
The ITSD and HASA leadership would like the opportunity to brief the Community Health and Equity Committee on the implementation status of the community-wide COVID-19 Waitlist.
