SUMMARY:

Briefing on Municipal Golf Association - San Antonio (MGA-SA) and review criteria of MGA-SA Board applications.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Municipal Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was created in 2007 to assume management of the eight City-owned golf courses located across five City Council Districts.  The Management Agreement is a ten-year agreement with two additional five-year extensions, of which the first extension is scheduled to expire in May 2022.  MGA-SA employs 225 total staff including 70 full-time with a quality benefits package and competitive salaries.  In FY 2020, over 346,000 rounds of golf were played with total revenues of just under $13.4 Million.

The MGA-SA Board of Directors consists of fifteen members, seven selected by MGA-SA, six appointed by the City Council and two ex-officio voting members appointed by the City Manager currently filled by Homer Garcia III and Melanie Keeton.  The terms of office have expired, and the six City Council Appointees are currently serving in holdover status.  The announcement for the acceptance of applications for these positions was announced via press release on April 8, 2021 with all applications due on April 28, 2021.  Additionally, the call for applications announcement was sent to all City Council offices and MGA-SA also provided the announcement to their entire membership group.

An ad-hoc committee will review all the applications received.  The committee consists of:
