Briefing and possible action on Committee member recommendations based on panel discussions between March and April on mental health, racial equity, and gender equity.

 

 

SUMMARY:

 

Briefing and possible action on Committee member recommendations based on panel discussions on mental health, racial equity, and gender equity. Recommendations resulting from these conversations will be reviewed and thereafter provided to the public safety committee.

 

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

In June of 2020, Mayor Ron Nirenberg asked the Community Health and Equity Committee to evaluate best policing practices to help promote race and gender equity in the City of San Antonio (CoSA) and best policing practices that address mental health de-escalation measures. To evaluate the policing practices, the Community Health and Equity Committee held the following series of panel discussions:

 

A.                     March 22, 2021: Panel discussion on mental health

B.                     March 29, 2021: Panel discussion on racial equity

C.                     April 30, 2021: Panel discussion on gender equity

 

Recommendations resulting from these conversations will be reviewed and thereafter provided to the public safety committee.
