The City's Government & Public Affairs Department will provide an update on the projects submitted to Bexar County delegation members for FY 2022 appropriations and Surface Transportation Reauthorization legislation.

Appropriations - Community Project Funding
Under the Community Project Funding process, members of Congress are able to sponsor up to ten funding requests from state and local governments and certain nonprofit organizations. Projects submitted must qualify under certain existing federal accounts and programs. As this is the first time in over a decade that earmarks are allowed, Congressional leadership, representatives and communities are navigating the new process for submittal. GPA worked closely with City Departments to identify projects and priorities to submit to the delegation that best fit the Community Project Funding guidelines. There were three projects submitted for review, and ultimately two projects were accepted and submitted by our Congressional members for further consideration by the House Committee on Appropriations. The two projects included were the Equity-based Home Repair & Rental Preservation Program for $2 million; and the SAPD Mental Health Unit Expansion for $1 million.

Surface Transportation Reauthorization
The next Surface Transportation Reauthorization bill will include member submitted infrastructure projects. To be considered, member submitted projects must be on local Transportation Improvement Plans (TIP) and address the priorities set out by the White House and Transportation & Infrastructure Committee Chair.
