Ratification - Alamodome Arena System Amplifiers Repair & Replacement
SUMMARY:
This ordinance ratifies a contract with LD Systems which provided the City of San Antonio Convention & Sports Facilities Department with repairs to the existing arena amplifier system at the Alamodome for a total cost of $72,337.28. Funds for this purchase are available in the FY 2021 Community & Visitor Facilities Fund budget.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Submitted for City Council action is ratification of a contract with LD Systems for repairs completed on the Alamodome's amplifier system, including the replacement of damaged amplifiers. On March 4, 2021, it was discovered that the Alamodome's arena system amplifiers on the north end of the arena suffered severe damage due to the winter weather event that occurred the week of February 15, 2021. Extraordinary freezing temperatures and rolling power outages contributed to the system's failure.
The Convention & Sports Facilities Department contracted with LD Systems due to their familiarity with the amplifier system. Repairs had to be completed prior to March 10, 2021 for the scheduled UIL Boys & Girls Basketball Tournament and did not allow sufficient time to seek competitive bids.
ISSUE:
The system needed immediate repair to accommodate events scheduled during the month of March 2021 including the UIL Boys & Girls Basketball Tournament and the NCAA Women's Final Four Tournament.
This contract was procured on the basis of an exemption due to unforeseen damage to machinery, equipment, or other property.
ALTERNATIVES:
Had this procurement not occurred, the Convention & Sports Facilities Department would not have had the ability to provide the audio requirements for scheduled events, such as NCAA Women's Final Four Tournament, or the ability to adequately provide emergency audio messaging.
