SUBJECT: Mexican American Civil Rights Institute Update

SUMMARY: This presentation will provide an update on the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Mexican American Civil Rights Institute (MACRI) received a two-year $500,000 planning grant from the City of San Antonio in the City’s FY 2019 Budget. Now in its second year of operation, MACRI is an official nonprofit 501(c)3 that has provided free virtual programming on topics ranging from the history of Mexican American women and civil rights to the connections between the current pandemic and a century of Mexican American public health inequities.

Since its inception, MACRI has hosted or participated in over 35 public programs that have been watched by over 39,000 people.

Rooted in and inspired by San Antonio’s legacy, the MACRI is the premier national organization dedicated to chronicling and advancing the Mexican American community’s civil rights efforts in the U.S.
