STREET NAME CHANGE Case S15-002 (District 6): An Ordinance authorizing the street name change of "Old Hwy 90" to "Enrique M Barrera Pkwy" between U.S. Hwy 90 and Commerce Street, and create a memorial designation of "Old Hwy 90".

Requested Street Name: "Enrique M Barrera Pkwy" and Memorial Designation of "Old Hwy 90"

Reason for request: To recognize Enrique M. Barrera for his service on the Edgewood School Board as Trustee for 12 years and City Council for 5 years.

General Location: Between U.S. Hwy 90 and Commerce Streets.

Recommendation: Staff recommends approval

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Planning Commission Hearing Date: January 14, 2015 - Planning Commission recommended approval with the condition that the Council Office continue to meet with the residents in order to reach a compromise and look at improvements to the streets.

Location: Between U.S. Hwy 90 and Commerce Street

Street segment size: Approximately 22,158 Linear Feet (4.20 miles)

Notification:
-Notices mailed August 20, 2015, to 226 property owners abutting the segment of the street proposed for a name change; however, approximately 181 properties will require a change of address.
-Notice sent to the Cable Westwood and Los Jardines Neighborhood Associations
-Notice was also sent to the Community Workers Council
-To the present, staff has received no written response from the adjacent property owners
-2 public meetings were held on October 28, 2014 and April 9, 2015.
