SUBJECT:

Zarzamora - IH-35 Gateway Project


SUMMARY:

An ordinance accepting the lowest responsive qualified bid including two additive alternates and awarding a construction contract in the amount of $119,344.00 to Cal-Tex Interior, Incorporated to perform the site work and foundation installation in connection with the Zarzamora - IH-35 Gateway Project located in Council District 4. The project has been awarded $359,050.00 in CDBG funds, for improvements at the Zarzamora - IH-35 Gateway Project located within the REnewSA South San/Kindred target area in Council District 4.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Project Background
This project was awarded $359,050.00 in CDBG funds in 2016 for improvements at the Zarzamora - IH-35 Gateway Project located within the REnewSA South San/Kindred target area in Council District 4.

Improvements include preparing the foundation for the installation of an art piece as well as providing a new CPS electric meter to allow for the placement of light poles and up lighting to illuminate the art piece at night.

The art piece was designed by Cruz Ortiz who is currently an on-call artist with the department of Arts & Culture. The City has worked closely with the artist to have Flying Carpet Creative fabricate the sculpture. Construction of the foundation is anticipated to begin in August 2017. The art piece is expected to be ready for installation in September 2017 and the project is estimated to be completed by November 2017.

Procurement of Services
This contract is within the scope of the SBEDA Program. However, due to lack of available firms and/or subcontracting opportunities, the Goal Setting Committee was unable to apply a SBEDA tool to this contract.
