SUMMARY:
This ordinance authorizes the acceptance of funds in the amount of $300,000.00 from the San Antonio Conservation Society to support the restoration and rehabilitation of the historic Pump House at Brackenridge Park located in Council District 2 and execution of a Funding Agreement.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
In recognition of the Three Hundredth Anniversary of the founding of San Antonio, the San Antonio Conservation Society has selected a project that exemplifies their contribution to preservation and restoration of San Antonio's rich historic fabric. Founded in 1924 the San Antonio Conservation Society is one of the oldest and most active community preservation groups in the United States and has established a valuable partnership with the Parks and Recreation Department.
The San Antonio Conservation Society has pledged to raise $300,000.00 in contributions toward restoration of the historic Pump House No. 1 located on the San Antonio River at the north end of Brackenridge Park. Acceptance of these funds will facilitate a one-time contribution from the Society in three installments which will augment the 2017 Bond Funds. The Pump House was built as part of the City's original waterworks established by George Brackenridge in the late 1800's, and is one of the City's oldest existing industrial buildings. This project is aligned with the adopted Brackenridge Park Master Plan.
