SUBJECT:
City Council Project Funds Allocation (CCPF)
SUMMARY:
This ordinance awards grant allocations through the City Council Project Fund (CCPF) to support the San Antonio Sports Fit Family Challenge.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The City Council Office began administration of the City Council Project Fund in 2012. At that time, several improvements to the program were made including; implementation of streamlined application (online), an election year moratorium, and City Council approval allocations exceeding $10,000 to an applicant for the same program, activity, events, good or service. This ordinance awards a $37,558.11 grant allocation to support San Antonio Sport's Fit Family Challenge Program.
The San Antonio Sports Fit Family Challenge expands the kids' fitness efforts to the entire family through a free, 12-week summer family fitness program that encourages families to be active together and live a healthier lifestyle. 2018 marks the ninth year for this program.
District 4 held their event on May 12. San Antonio Sports hosted the Heroes 5k, a free family friendly event attended by a record-breaking 4,500 individuals. A number of first responders and service members attended the event at Port San Antonio, promoting fitness for families and community participation. District 8 held their event on June 23. San Antonio Sports managed an 80's themed 5K, a free event that included a health fair, healthy incentives, and recognition for families leading an active and healthy lifestyle. Funds awarded will reimburse the organization for program costs needed to fund these community events.
