SUBJECT:

Authorizing the acceptance of $17,942.81 in additional funding from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) for laboratory milk sample testing


SUMMARY:

The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District's (Metro Health) laboratory services branch provides analysis of milk samples submitted by DSHS for testing at their request.

This Ordinance authorizes the acceptance of additional funds from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) in an amount not to exceed $89,714.06.

Furthermore this ordinance authorizes the Director of the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health) to initiate, negotiate, and execute any and all necessary documents to effectuate the acceptance of the referenced grant funds, to include executing a contract amendment pertaining to this contract, and to execute additional contract amendments pertaining to this contract to include amendments which will provide supplemental grants funds to the grant by the funding agency in an amount up to 20% of the total amount awarded to the grant to include the funds awarded under this ordinance.



BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Metro Health's laboratory services branch provides analysis of milk samples at DSHS' request as a fee for service. Metro Health's laboratory has been under contract with DSHS providing milk sample analysis for several years. Council approved the last fee for service contract February 15, 2018, Ordinance No. 2018-02-15-0106, for an amount up to $71,771.25. DSHS has increased the fees and amounts they will reimburse vendors for milk sample analysis. As a result of this increase in their fee structure, the cap for the amount Metro Health may accept for these services to DSHS has increased from $71,771.25 to $89,714.06, an increase of $17,942.81.
