Interviews for Appointment to the VIA Metropolitan Transit Authority Board of Trustees (1 Slot)

 

SUMMARY:

 

The Governance City Council Committee will convene to interview four (4) applicants to select a candidate to fill one vacant slot on the VIA Metropolitan Transit Authority Board of Trustees due to the resignation of Patricia Rodriguez.  Five applicants were selected; however, one applicant withdrew from consideration.  The applicant selected will serve the remainder of the unexpired term of office to expire on December 31, 2019.  The applicants listed below will be interviewed.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

VIA manages and operates the Metropolitan Transit Authority within Bexar County, Texas.  VIA is governed by a Board of Trustees with eleven appointees, five (5) of which are appointed by the San Antonio City Council; three (3) are appointed by the Bexar County Commissioners Court; two (2) are appointed by the Suburban Mayors; and the Chair of the Board is elected by the Board Members.  Board members are appointed to staggered two-year terms and may serve up to four terms. 

 

ISSUE:

Board appointments require full City Council approval.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact.

 

RECOMMENDATION:

The City Clerk recommends approval of the Governance Council Committee’s selection and that same be submitted for the City Council Meeting on September 12, 2019.
