SUBJECT: Infrastructure and RAISE Grant Update

The City's Government & Public Affairs and Transportation Departments will provide an update on the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant opportunity and infrastructure funding being discussed by the federal government.

RAISE Grant
On April 23 the U.S. DOT released a Notice of Funding Opportunity for the RAISE grant program. The program is the continuation of the grants previously known as BUILD and TIGER and will make available $1 billion in FY 21 for transportation projects with a focus on creating jobs, improving safety, protecting the environment, and generating equitable economic opportunities. Applications for RAISE are due by July 12, 2021.

As this is a highly competitive grant, the City of San Antonio has begun a process coordinated with community stakeholders to identify projects that are best suited to meet the grant program's evaluation criteria. The City's Transportation Department has engaged a consultant to assist the community in submitting a proposal that aligns with Administration priorities.

FY 2022 Budget - USDOT
Included in the Administration's FY 2022 budget, released on May 28th, is an $88 billion request for the U.S. Department of Transportation. The funding proposed in the budget are in addition to the funding proposed in the American Jobs Plan and includes:

Federal Aviation Administration - $18.45 billion
Federal Transit Administration - $13.5 billion
Federal Highway Administration - $47 billion
Thriving Communities Program - $110 million
Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) - $1 billion
